Thesis Focus:

Process Mining Demonstration System

Purpose:

Process Mining serves as a powerful tool for visualizing and analyzing business workflows, relying on the examination of event logs that detail the sequence and relationships of various process steps within an IT environment. This thesis aims to develop a technology demonstration system utilizing the pm4py framework from the Fraunhofer Institute, potentially enhancing the monitoring capabilities of the SEEBURGER BIS Integration Suite.

Objectives:

  • Establish a foundation for future investments in Process Mining at SEEBURGER AG
  • Assess the advantages of Process Mining for business integration scenarios
  • Evaluate the maturity of existing methodologies and software tools
  • Provide groundwork for estimating the implementation effort of a Process Mining extension for SEEBURGER BIS Monitoring

Tasks:

1. Theoretical Component:

  • Outline the fundamental functionalities of a Process Mining system
  • Conduct a market analysis of open-source and commercial solutions
  • Identify use cases relevant to Business Integration
  • Select appropriate analysis and visualization techniques
  • Examine the SEEBURGER Business Integration Suite for necessary enhancements in data generation, analysis, and visualization

2. Practical Component:

  • Develop a prototype using the pm4py framework
  • Generate representative data (event log)
  • Implement suitable analysis techniques
  • Create the required visualization components
  • Demonstrate selected use cases

Prerequisites:

  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience with Java

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of Petri Nets
  • Familiarity with Mining Algorithms
  • Understanding of Statistical Methods
