Hybrid Rye Breeding Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hybrid Rye Breeding Specialist to join our team at KWS LOCHOW GmbH. As an Assistant Breeder for Hybrid Rye Product Development, you will play a key role in driving the selection decisions of our hybrid rye product development pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Comprehensive Analyses: Deliver precise results with a high degree of accountability by conducting comprehensive analyses of phenotypic and genomic datasets using statistical software such as R and SAS.
  • Contribute to Selection Decisions: Contribute to common selection decisions across the breeding program, ensuring the development of high-quality hybrid rye varieties.
  • Streamline Decision Making: Streamline decision making by processing and compiling data from across different functional units of the breeding program.
  • Define Selection Criteria: Define selection criteria based on an understanding of germplasm and associated traits, ensuring the development of elite genetics.
  • Refine Selection Procedures: Refine selection procedures for product development by considering genetic factors, knowledge on germplasm, efficiency, and logistical aspects to ensure a sustainable yield of elite genetics.
  • Foster Scientific Cooperation: Foster scientific cooperation with external partners in breeding research and be an active community member.
  • Conceptualize and Manage Research Projects: Conceptualize, plan, implement, and manage breeding-related research projects.
Requirements:
  • Master's or PhD in Plant Breeding or Related Field: Completed Master's or PhD in the fields of plant breeding, agricultural sciences, statistics, or related subjects.
  • Phenotypic Data Analysis Experience: Solid knowledge and proven experience in phenotypic data analysis; basic understanding of genetics and breeding methodologies.
  • International Experience: Ideally, initial professional experience in complex structures and an international context.
  • Language Skills: Very good written and spoken English skills; basic communication skills in German are an advantage.
  • Self-Responsibility and Ownership: High level of self-responsibility and ownership regarding the projects and topics handled.
  • Communication and Project Management Skills: Strong communication and project management skills across functional, regional, and cultural boundaries.
  • Willingness to Learn: High willingness to learn and work with enthusiasm on new, complex breeding topics.
