About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our IT Department at ESO - Europäische Südsternwarte. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the administration of our SAP DBMS infrastructure, providing support to our current SAP DBMS Subject Matter Expert and peers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain database servers, including installation, configuration, and tuning.
  • Provide support and advice to users on queries and application development, including SQL analysis and query optimization.
  • Develop and implement database solutions using Python or other scripting languages.
  • Collaborate with development teams to engineer software using database technologies.
  • Establish, measure, and enhance IT operational level agreements with internal stakeholders.
  • Control the evolution of IT Services, considering changes, improvements, upgrades, or obsolescence.
Requirements
  • A first-level University degree (Bachelor) in any IT discipline or equivalent degree.
  • An excellent command of the English language - oral, reading, and writing - is essential. A working knowledge of German and/or Spanish would be an advantage.
