The Department of Scientific Automation comprises four specialized groups: Trusted Machine Intelligence, Automation and Production Technology, IoT and Mechatronics, and Smart Home. Your Responsibilities

One of the significant advantages of data-driven black box systems is their ability to approximate nonlinear relationships that may not be accurately represented through traditional modeling. Consequently, the application of machine learning (ML) is increasingly prevalent in the development of mechatronic systems. This trend necessitates ongoing research to be conducted on appropriate reference systems. In this project, you will identify and develop a reference system to further explore the safe integration of ML techniques within mechatronic systems.

The following tasks will be undertaken:

  • Conducting thorough research to identify suitable benchmark systems
  • Modeling the system within a defined modeling environment
  • Developing and validating a control system for the benchmark system
  • Evaluating the control system and identifying potential ML applications

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics
  • Foundational knowledge in control engineering and mechatronics
  • Proficiency in both German and English, written and spoken
  • Strong analytical skills and a self-directed work approach
  • Familiarity with Python (preferred) and/or MATLAB/Simulink (required)
