CMC Markets is seeking a Director of Legal Affairs to oversee and manage the legal operations across the European sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Oversight: Direct the legal operations for CMC Markets, including its European branches, providing strategic legal guidance to the Senior Management Team while safeguarding the organization's interests and reputation.
- Compliance Management: Ensure comprehensive mitigation of legal risks and adherence to best practices in handling legal matters; identify and implement process enhancements to reduce legal exposure.
- Team Leadership: Lead and nurture a high-performing legal team throughout Europe, focusing on talent acquisition, performance evaluation, and professional growth.
- Business Collaboration: Work closely with various business units to support new initiatives, product launches, and significant projects.
- Dispute Management: Oversee legal disputes, including litigation and regulatory inquiries.
- Regulatory Awareness: Keep informed of legal and regulatory changes in the financial services sector, particularly within Europe, and share pertinent updates with the Legal Team.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders, serving as a primary contact for CMC's office leaders across Europe.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of corporate and legal documents, including but not limited to: maintaining legal terms for trading platforms, handling complaints and litigation, reviewing finance agreements, and managing property-related legal work.
- External Counsel Management: Optimize the use of external legal services to ensure cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
- Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as required that align with the overall scope of this role.
Support for Other Departments:
- Assist the European Compliance Team with regulatory issues and changes affecting CMC's operations.
- Ensure compliance of CMC's business terms with local laws and regulations.
- Support business expansion efforts across Europe, including legal due diligence and cross-border considerations.
- Collaborate with regional Heads of Legal to protect CMC's intellectual property rights globally.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Provide high-quality legal counsel and support to the organization.
- Minimize legal risks and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Maximize the effectiveness of external legal resources to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the financial services industry and its legal implications for CMC.
General Expectations:
- Engage in continuous professional development to adapt to the evolving demands of the role, including necessary regulatory training.
- Deliver a consistent, high-quality service that reflects a professional image of CMC.
- Ensure confidentiality in all dealings.
- Perform additional duties, training, and/or hours as reasonably required.
- Contribute significantly to the provision of a high-quality legal service to CMC.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Qualified solicitor and German Rechtsanwalt with a minimum of 5-8 years of post-qualification experience.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both German and English, with the ability to articulate complex legal matters clearly.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and negotiation abilities.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, assuming managerial responsibilities when necessary.
