This position is open to current internal employees and external applicants residing in Germany.
Primary ResponsibilitiesThe main objective of this role is to oversee cooking operations during a designated shift within an Army Dining Facility.
- Responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of food items in both bulk and individual portions, catering to standard and modified dietary needs for all meal times including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events.
- Evaluates menus, work sheets, and recipes to ascertain the necessary quantities and types of food items required for service. Prepares ingredients by cutting, trimming, and measuring according to established recipes and dietary guidelines. Handles fruits and vegetables by cleaning, peeling, and cutting as needed. Works independently or alongside a senior cook to roast, bake, fry, boil, steam, or braise various proteins and vegetables. Monitors cooking temperatures and times, ensuring food quality and safety standards are met; seasons and portions food as required.
- Prepares sauces, soups, stews, casseroles, and a variety of breakfast items. Prepares salads and dressings, as well as desserts such as custards and gelatin. Responsible for brewing coffee, tea, and other beverages, and making sandwiches. Operates kitchen equipment safely and efficiently to produce large quantities of food for service.
Completion of a vocational training program in the culinary field lasting at least 30 months.
OR
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a culinary setting.
Alternatively, candidates with vocational training in the culinary field plus 2 years of experience at a comparable level to Wage Group 5 are also eligible. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform duties independently.
OR
8 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years at a level comparable to Wage Group 5.
• A valid driver's license (Class B) is required.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
English proficiency at A1 level and German proficiency at B2 level are mandatory.
• This is a permanent full-time position (40 hours per week).
• The designated duty station is in Germany, with potential reassignment within the region.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs is necessary.
