Job Overview
The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager serves as the primary authority on all matters related to health, safety, and environmental practices at the site. This role is crucial within the leadership framework, tasked with enhancing and upholding HSE management systems while ensuring compliance with both external regulations and corporate standards.
The HSE Manager is responsible for the local application of the corporate Health & Safety Strategy, offering support and direction to various projects and initiatives aimed at advancing health, safety, and environmental performance. This individual will act as the go-to expert in HSE matters, collaborating closely with operational teams to foster exceptional safety outcomes. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership qualities, demonstrating the ability to influence behaviors and achieve results through effective management of both direct and indirect reports.
Key Responsibilities
Uphold Alkegen Values while executing responsibilities. Ensure the establishment of comprehensive systems and protocols that comply with national health, safety, and environmental legislation, conducting regular audits to confirm adherence to these regulations. Demonstrate compliance with Global HSE standards through effective Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics aligned with corporate objectives. Develop and implement tactical HSE initiatives that align with the overarching corporate strategy. Serve as the subject matter expert for HSE issues, providing guidance to management and staff, and acting as the primary contact for regulatory authorities. Enhance the HSE committee structure to promote safety performance, employee engagement, and risk mitigation. Communicate site HSE performance metrics to corporate levels in accordance with business expectations. Conduct thorough root cause analyses for all incidents, ensuring follow-up on action plans to prevent recurrence. Oversee occupational health monitoring programs to safeguard employees from long-term risks. Ensure timely completion and auditing of risk assessments, implementing necessary action plans. Facilitate training programs on HSE topics to meet site safety standards for all employees. Maintain and enhance emergency response protocols through regular drills and exercises. Manage the procurement of necessary health and safety equipment within budgetary constraints. Lead medium-scale improvement projects aimed at enhancing workplace safety standards. Mentor other managers to cultivate effective management styles that promote a robust safety culture.Required Qualifications:
NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or progress towards it. Familiarity with ISO14001 & ISO 18001 standards. Knowledge of UK/EU safety legislation and practices.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in auditing HSE aspects. Background in environmental reporting with relevant qualifications. Experience with Management of Change systems. Familiarity with chemical manufacturing environments. Knowledge of Process Safety Management techniques. Experience in behavioral safety management systems.Competencies:
