Optical Lens Technician

Who May Apply?Current internal employees in Germany, including all local national staff of the U.S. Forces in Germany, as well as external applicants residing in Germany.
Key ResponsibilitiesSingle Vision and Stocked Lenses: Responsible for receiving and processing requests for spectacles, ensuring accurate matching of lenses to prescriptions. Duties include:
- Utilizing lens measuring instruments to determine optical centers.
- Cutting lenses to specified dimensions and applying safety bevels.
- Inspecting completed spectacles for quality and compliance with standards.
- Performing quality control checks on all orders.
Multi Vision and Non-Stocked Lenses: Handling prescriptions requiring surfacing, including:
- Selecting appropriate base curves and performing necessary adjustments.
- Monitoring computerized lens cutting processes and ensuring quality at each stage.
- Conducting routine maintenance on equipment and documenting any issues.
Education:
- Completed vocational training in the relevant trade for a minimum of 30 months, or
- 5 years of specialized experience in the field.
Experience:
- Additional experience requirements may apply based on the level of responsibility.
Language Proficiency:
- English Level A2 and German Level C1 are required.
Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs is necessary.
