Research Associate in Eco-Evolutionary Modelling

About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate in Eco-Evolutionary Modelling to join our team at Universität Hamburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research and teaching in the field of eco-evolutionary modelling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in eco-evolutionary modelling, focusing on the effects of acclimation, dispersal, and establishment on diversity patterns of mosses and lichens under climate change.
  • Develop and extend an established dynamic vegetation model (DGMV) to include mechanisms of dispersal, establishment, and acclimation.
  • Evaluate the model using laboratory and small-scale field experiments.
  • Teach and conduct research, with at least one-third of working hours dedicated to the candidate's own academic work.
Requirements
  • University degree in a relevant field, such as Ecology, Biology, Biogeochemistry, or a field of natural science where ecological topics are included.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in at least two of the following research disciplines: Ecology, biogeochemistry, soil science, hydrology, and climate science.
  • Advanced and proven skills in numerical modelling, particularly integration of partial differential equations, and scientific writing.
  • Team spirit, high motivation, independent thinking and working, and general experience with Unix-like operating systems and associated software.
  • Very good oral and written English skills.
