Research Doctorate in Psychiatry and Stem Cell Innovations

A PhD research opportunity is currently available at the
Hector Institute for Translational Brain Research (HITBR)
affiliated with the Central Institute of Mental Health.
This project aims to bridge the gap between fundamental stem cell biology and practical applications in research, focusing on the functional evaluation and multi-OMICs analysis of human brain cells. The research will explore alterations linked to neuropsychiatric conditions through the use of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived models, including both 2D and 3D cerebral organoids.
The position is structured for a duration of three years, with potential for extension, and is intended to commence at the earliest convenience.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong motivation, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to work independently. A keen interest in neurobiology, psychiatry, stem cell research, biotechnology, and disease modeling is essential. Previous experience in cell culture techniques, microscopy, biochemistry, or molecular biology will be considered advantageous. Candidates should hold a diploma or master’s degree in biology, molecular biomedicine, biotechnology, or a related field.

The HITBR is connected to the ZI and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), which offers state-of-the-art research facilities and multi-OMICs profiling capabilities.
This PhD position will be integrated into the graduate programs of the University of Heidelberg, Faculty of Biosciences, leading to the award of a PhD.
Compensation will align with the German salary scale TV-L E13 (65%). The CIMH is committed to equal opportunity employment.
