Your Responsibilities
We are seeking applications for a postdoctoral researcher at the intersection of developmental biology, neurobiology, mechanobiology, and biophysics within the laboratory of Kristian Franze. The successful applicant will explore the influence of tissue mechanics on the formation of the nervous system. This research will specifically focus on how local tissue properties interact with biochemical signals to influence brain morphology.
This ERC-funded initiative promotes collaboration and will facilitate exchanges between various esteemed institutions, fostering a dynamic research environment.
The Franze laboratory investigates how mechanical factors, such as tissue rigidity and cellular forces, affect neuronal behavior during both development and pathological conditions. Employing both in vitro and in vivo methodologies across diverse biological systems, we aim to understand how cells perceive their mechanical surroundings and how mechanical and chemical cues are integrated. Key techniques utilized in our research include atomic force microscopy, live imaging, and a range of biochemical and molecular biology techniques to manipulate specific cellular functions and tissue properties. By joining our lab, you will become part of a multidisciplinary, international team that values collaboration and innovation.
Your Qualifications
Essential:
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in molecular or developmental biology. A high degree of enthusiasm and curiosity is crucial. The ability to take initiative and manage one's own research project, alongside effective teamwork skills, is essential. Strong communication abilities are necessary to engage with lab members and collaborators from diverse scientific disciplines.
Desirable:
Familiarity with programming languages (such as Matlab or Python) and/or experience in microscopy techniques would be beneficial but are not mandatory.
Additional Information
This is a fixed-term research position, with funding available for an initial period of 36 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
