Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – System Installation
Your Role and Your Team:
You will report directly to the Engineering Lead overseeing the System Installation design within the Structures and Interior Design Organization. This organization is responsible for the development of the aircraft structure, including the fuselage and wing systems, as well as the interior of the Lilium Jet. The team supports the development throughout the entire lifecycle, from concept to detailed design, testing, and into serial production.
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in System Installation, you will be tasked with designing the integration of various aircraft systems into the airframe. From conceptual packaging to detailed design and selection of necessary installation hardware and modifications to the airframe, you will play a crucial role in bringing our innovative aircraft to fruition.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Define system installation locations within the aircraft in alignment with system requirements.
- Utilize Siemens NX to design the necessary hardware for mechanical system installation and select appropriate standard components.
- Propose designs and modifications to the airframe to facilitate system installation.
- Collaborate with system owners, stress engineers, EWIS engineers, and other relevant stakeholders for multidisciplinary optimization of system installation design.
- Review and approve technical 2D drawings for manufacturing release.
- Manage design data for systems and system installations using Teamcenter.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, and installation processes.
- Coordinate with suppliers effectively.
- Engage in any ad hoc projects or tasks as required.
- Continuously learn and share knowledge with team members.
Your Profile:
- University degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical/Vehicle Engineering (aerospace specialization, MSc/M.Eng preferred).
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the aerospace sector is essential.
- Comprehensive knowledge of metallic structures and their design principles is required; familiarity with composite structures is advantageous.
- Proficient in a CAD system (Siemens NX preferred).
- Strong understanding of ISO GPS (or ASME GD&T) and excellent drafting skills are necessary.
- Basic knowledge of PDM/PLM systems (Teamcenter or equivalent) is beneficial.
- Familiarity with analytical stress analysis is advantageous.
- Experience in requirements-based engineering is beneficial.
- Good understanding of thermal and electrical engineering principles is a plus.
- High level of self-reliance with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently is required.
- Target-oriented, driven work style with strong analytical problem-solving skills is essential.
- Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving work environment is necessary.
- Fluent English language skills are essential; proficiency in German or other languages is a plus.
