Key Responsibilities

The Tallahassee Community College Learning Commons is seeking a Mathematics Specialist to provide instructional support and learning assistance to students. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing individualized and group tutoring support to students in mathematics and related subjects.
  • Developing and implementing programs, resources, and materials to support student learning in mathematics.
  • Collaborating with faculty across divisions to design and deliver instructional materials and support services.
  • Conducting class visits, orientations, and tours to promote the Learning Commons and its services.
  • Serving on Learning Commons committees and participating in campus-wide initiatives.
  • Mentoring part-time tutors and participating in the tutor training process.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, the candidate must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a discipline related to mathematics, such as mathematics education or computer science.
  • At least two years of experience in learning assistance and/or teaching.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics skills, including basic math through college algebra.
  • Knowledge of best practices in Learning Assistance and Mathematics Education.
  • Ability to assess student learning needs and recommend individualized learning plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including online and distance learners.
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted learning programs and online student record-keeping systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
