Job Title: Bioengineer (f/m/d)

We are seeking a highly motivated Bioengineer (f/m/d) to join our team at the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung Center for Synthetic Genomics (CZS Center SynGen) at Heidelberg University. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and optimizing standard laboratory workflows to assemble and diversify synthetic DNA designs using novel and innovative in vitro and in vivo DNA manipulation methods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for DNA assembly and diversification
  • Document experimental results and present them at group meetings
  • Operate the lab's cutting-edge instrumentation, including robots for liquid and microbial colony handling
  • Manage user allocation and keep the lab's instrumentation operable
  • Interact with customers and handle their requests independently
  • Train new lab members and visiting researchers on DNA manipulation workflows
  • Coordinate shipping of resources to customers and collaborators
  • Maintain lab safety and keep the lab organized and clean
  • Manage lab stocks, order consumables, and handle waste management and routine calibration
Requirements:
  • Advanced theoretical training in (molecular) biotechnology and genetics
  • Experience in standard molecular biology and microbiology techniques
  • Proper lab documentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Post-training practical experience of 2+ years
  • Experience in S. cerevisiae genetics techniques
  • Advanced technical training (BTA, CTA, or similar)
  • Experience with lab automation
  • Fluent in German
