About Us

The DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute, established in 2019, is a collaborative effort between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the University Medical Center Mannheim, and the Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University. Our mission is to conduct cutting-edge translational cancer research, focusing on precision oncology, cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship.

Division Overview

The newly formed Division of Policy and Implementation Research for Cancer Prevention aims to connect scientific evidence with policy and practice in cancer prevention.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the implementation and analysis of a study investigating the spatial distribution of tobacco and alcohol outlets across Germany.
  • Publish research findings in reputable journals.
  • Engage in innovative knowledge translation methods to communicate results to key stakeholders.
  • Participate in grant writing and contribute to other research projects within the division.

This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with experts in cancer prevention, policymakers, and community stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should possess:

  • A Master's degree and a PhD in public health, social sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing GIS for health research, with proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and statistical analysis tools.
  • A strong interest in policy and implementation research, with a commitment to bridging the gap between evidence and practice.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with proficiency in English; knowledge of German is advantageous but not mandatory.
