Position Overview:
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will report directly to the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Machining. This role is pivotal in executing the manufacturing strategy aimed at enhancing machining processes, ensuring optimal equipment usage, adhering to design specifications, conducting setup reviews, and implementing new control strategies. The engineer will also oversee the specification, sourcing, qualification, and seamless integration of new equipment into mass production, ensuring compliance with both Dover's and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with operational companies to enhance Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through initiatives such as Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) for both new and existing machinery.
- Contribute to corporate strategies aimed at increasing productivity by internalizing expenditures on new capital expenditures and optimizing machine utilization.
- Lead SMED events and conduct site assessments of CNC technology while managing site improvement projects.
- Assist operational companies in their journey towards maturity in the Machining Excellence Playbook.
- Provide technical guidance and deployment of new machining technologies to drive productivity enhancements.
- Support the machining strategy focused on maximizing asset utilization for productivity improvements.
- Evaluate and recommend new machine shop equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and calibration.
- Optimize workforce utilization, workspace design, and equipment layout for maximum efficiency.
- Continuously assess and recommend upgrades to equipment to enhance asset utilization.
- Engage with tooling suppliers to ensure the use of appropriate tooling for production and collaborate on developing advanced cutting tools for specific applications.
- Develop in-house machining capabilities while enhancing machine functionality.
- Identify and implement new machining methods to improve quality, reduce costs, and optimize production schedules.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles for process development and problem resolution.
- Conduct root cause analyses for non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Support manufacturing in achieving safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput objectives while identifying improvement opportunities.
- Utilize project management skills to lead capital equipment and improvement initiatives.
- Investigate equipment performance issues and propose corrective actions.
- Draft and revise User Requirement Specifications, Functional Requirements, Design Specifications, and Qualifications.
- Facilitate Factory and Site Acceptance Tests, Machinability Studies, and validation protocols.
- Review and approve PFMEA, DFMEA, PPAPs, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with manufacturing and operational standards.
- Implement continuous improvement methodologies to enhance internal processes.
- Collaborate across the organization to identify issues and drive improvements.
- Provide hands-on support for new product and process launches.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering, industrial technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of experience in manufacturing engineering with a focus on machining processes.
- Proficient in setting up and operating advanced machining equipment.
- Extensive experience in machining and maintenance practices.
- Strong knowledge of standard machine shop manufacturing processes and setups.
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar mechanical CAD software.
- Familiarity with precision conventional and advanced metrology systems.
- Commitment to safety standards in design and practice.
- Understanding of Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for cross-departmental collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
