About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Patent Attorney to join our team at ZEISS. As a key member of our division, you will be responsible for managing intellectual property matters and advising colleagues on business decisions related to patents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage grant procedures before IP offices in Germany and abroad, collaborating with patent attorneys as needed.
  • Evaluate third-party rights and defend against them through opposition procedures before the EPO and DPMA.
  • Advise development divisions on third-party property rights and ensure their consideration in business decisions.
  • Enforce own IP rights against third parties using available legal actions.
  • Develop contracts in the field of intellectual property rights and conduct negotiations.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of technical or scientific studies, with knowledge in optics being an advantage.
  • Admission as a European Patent Attorney (or in the process of obtaining it).
  • Relevant professional experience in connection with technical intellectual property rights.
  • Ideal knowledge and experience of foreign patent systems, particularly those of the USA and PR China.
  • A working method characterized by precision, abstraction, responsibility, and excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to present complex technical and legal issues in a clear and convincing manner in German and English.
  • Excellent knowledge of German and English at language level C (European Framework of Reference) for daily work.
