Position Overview:
This thesis opportunity focuses on the research and development of multimodal user experience (UX) concepts within the automotive sector. The selected candidate will engage with the Future UX-Concepts & UX-SW Technologies team at Mercedes-Benz AG, located in Sindelfingen.
Role Responsibilities:
The primary objective of this thesis is to explore the integration of various modalities in user experience design for vehicles. The candidate will investigate customer preferences and the potential for combining modalities such as touch, gaze, and voice in conjunction with screen displays to enhance the user experience during complex automotive tasks.
The key tasks include:
- Conducting comprehensive research on human-machine interaction technologies, focusing on multimodal interaction principles and their application in automotive UX.
- Developing a potential assessment based on research findings, including specific hypotheses for investigation.
- Creating user journeys and stories to clarify integration concepts, followed by prototypical implementations in digital, multimodal environments.
- Designing, preparing, and executing UX evaluations.
- Documenting methodologies and results throughout the project phases.
- Preparing and delivering presentations of the findings.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program related to UI/UX design, human-computer interaction, or a similar field with a focus on usability and user experience.
- Familiarity with interaction concepts and UX technologies, including gaze, speech, and gesture recognition.
- Strong background in developing UX/UI concepts, with knowledge of UX technologies and software architecture.
- Experience in prototyping within simulation or testing environments.
- Interest in emerging technological trends and their implications.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating motivation, teamwork, and analytical skills.
- Proficient in both German and English, with strong communication skills.
- Competence in MS Office and software development tools such as Atlassian Confluence and Jira.
- A valid class B driver's license is preferred.
