Diversity is a core value at ZEISS, and real-time video processing is a key area of focus for our embedded and mobile systems research team.
With Zephyr RTOS, it may be possible to integrate video-based features into miniaturized and low-power devices using microcontrollers, rather than relying on full Linux systems or highly customized FPGA solutions.
If you have experience with embedded systems, this thesis opportunity could be an exciting way to explore the possibilities of real-time video processing, from displaying a video stream to integrating DSPs, encoders/decoders, machine learning accelerators, and more.
You may also have the opportunity to contribute to the upstream Zephyr project by submitting patches or new drivers.
The goal of this project is to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using Zephyr RTOS for real-time video processing compared to alternative solutions like FPGAs or Linux.
To be successful in this project, you will need experience with a software platform for microcontrollers (such as Zephyr, Arduino, FreeRTOS, etc.) and/or Linux on embedded systems.
Good coding skills, specifically with C or C++, are also essential.
A minimum of a three-month internship is required before starting the thesis to allow for in-depth exploration and development of the topic.
