Thesis Starter Grant for Doctoral Candidates

Universität Passau is committed to supporting its young academics in their transition to a promising doctoral phase. To achieve this, we offer thesis starter grants to particularly qualified graduates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare an exposition/funding proposal for applications to donor organisations or third-party-funded positions
  • Conduct research as a doctoral research assistant, amounting to 30% of regular working hours
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Students with above-average marks in the final phase of a degree programme that will qualify them for doctoral study
  • Recent graduates with an above-average final grade who are planning to study for a doctorate at Universität Passau
Selection Criteria:
  • Applicant's academic qualification and performance, proven by outstanding academic achievements and prizes or awards
  • Scientific quality and clarity of the applicant's envisioned doctoral project
  • Comprehensibility of the applicant's personal motivation for gaining the doctorate and how it will benefit their future career plans
Required Documents:
  • Completed Thesis Starter Grant Application Form
  • Certificates of all university degrees obtained or proof of previous study and examination achievements
  • Applicant's curriculum vitae
  • Letter of acceptance from the designated doctoral supervisor at Universität Passau
