Key Phases of Work Include:
Discovery:
Assist clients in comprehending the business, user, and technological landscape. Identify key priorities and evaluate risks to establish a transformative trajectory.
Ideation:
Employ design principles to steer ideation, continuously refining priorities and concentrating on the most promising opportunities.
Design and Validate:
Develop conceptual experiences and value propositions for products/services grounded in thorough user ethnography to bring ideas to fruition, while also assessing customer desirability, commercial viability, and technological feasibility.
Create and Launch:
Construct experiences, products, and services, and initiate full-scale new businesses or business models. Scale: Propel commercial growth of the corporate startup, product, or service.

Working within I&D as a designer offers an unparalleled opportunity to tackle significant challenges for leading brands and enterprises, while gaining experience in multi-disciplinary teams alongside management consultants, data scientists, and engineers across various projects and industries.
Strategic Designers excel in identifying and defining the right opportunities for users and businesses. They apply Design Thinking and Service Design methodologies to reframe business and organizational challenges around the collective needs of users.
Strategic Designers possess deep expertise in design research and concept development, translating insights into innovation and business growth opportunities.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Lead the comprehensive strategic design process to convert customer insights into impactful growth and transformation opportunities.
Conduct qualitative research and synthesize findings from both qualitative and quantitative sources into actionable insights and tangible artifacts (e.g., personas, customer journey maps, opportunity maps, service blueprints).
Co-facilitate ideation workshops and creative sessions. Envision and conceptualize new business ideas and services with transformative potential, bringing them to life through creative storytelling. Iteratively design and refine solutions through low- to high-fidelity prototyping. Design and execute experiments, tests, and pilots to validate and evaluate new products, services, or businesses.
Collaborate closely with project management to support cross-functional process management and project delivery, ensuring successful outcomes for I&D. Own an end-to-end deliverable and work with supervisors to drive workstream success; help identify, prioritize, and execute on high-value activities. Consistently build alignment on project priorities and backlog; enable seamless relationships with multi-disciplinary project teams, including management consultants, data scientists, engineers, etc.
Effectively collaborate, co-create, and influence multiple stakeholders (project team, client team, experts, outside partners). Contribute to elevating Bain as a business. Enhance the I&D brand through support of external marketing initiatives. Play an active role in recruiting new design talent across EMEA, particularly in our growing team in London. Build the I&D knowledge base by capturing learnings from client engagements. Teach and transfer knowledge, expertise, and capabilities to Bain teams and client teams. Serve as a mentor and coach for junior members of the design team. Contribute to I&D culture creation and engage in team, office, or firm initiatives as part of the EMEA I&D team.
ABOUT YOU
3-4 years of hands-on experience in shaping digital products, services, and/or new ventures (or equivalent experience) in roles such as Service Designer, Value Proposition/Business Designer, or CX Designer, etc. A comprehensive understanding of Human-Centered Design, Design Thinking, and Agile methodologies. Expertise in strategic and service design, research, UX, UX/UI, or digital product design. Passion for all aspects of the design process, from early-stage insights gathering to strategy definition, concepting, and prototyping. Proficiency in collaboration and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, Webflow, Adobe CS), with exposure to GenAI Design tools.
Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills. A highly ambitious and entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, comfortable with ambiguity. This role requires some travel in the region - up to 40% travel to clients across EMEA. Fluency in German and English is a mandatory requirement, ideally you will be a German native speaker. While ideally based in Berlin or London, we are open to other locations within Germany.
An ideal candidate will also have experience in a client services/consulting environment, an understanding of business strategy, and a passion for expanding service design practices and emerging industry trends (e.g., GenAI, behavioral design, immersive experiences, etc.). Proficiency in other European languages is welcomed, particularly French and Spanish.
