Job Title: Director R&D AAS Germany

Abbott is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director R&D AAS Germany to lead our Research and Development team in Hamburg.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing our R&D organization in Hamburg, working closely with the development management team in the United States. This role requires a strong leadership and communication skills, as well as experience in managing R&D budgets and resource planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of approximately 70 employees in 4 teams, promoting professional skills, competencies, and capabilities.
  • Full operational and strategic responsibility for the R&D area for Hamburg & Freiburg teams, supporting the development of existing solution portfolios and innovations aligned with business unit strategy.
  • Collaborate with global R&D sites to develop best practices in focus areas of systems, software, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including operations, marketing, and Sales, to optimize product commercialization.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and market trends, ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor market and technology trends to identify new business opportunities.
  • Maintain partnerships with external research institutions and universities.
  • Presentation of research results and progress to management and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient and effective product development through the application of agile methods.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the R&D department within the business unit and in external events.
Requirements
  • Completed studies in a (medical) technical or scientific field.
  • Several years of experience in a leadership role in the R&D department of a medical technology company, ideally with references to automation and/or diagnostics.
  • Experience in managing and planning R&D budgets and resource planning.
  • Proven success in the implementation of R&D projects.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and quality standards.
  • Experience in dealing with agile development methods.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills in decentralized structures.
  • Capacity for interdisciplinary and international cooperation, as well as active networking.
  • Experience in (multi-)project management.
  • Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving approach.
  • Fluent in German and English.
