The global Legal Team at CMC Markets is composed of regional Heads of Legal, Senior Legal Counsel, Legal Counsel, and Paralegals.

CMC Markets is seeking a Director of Legal Affairs to oversee and manage the legal operations across the European region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Oversight: Direct the legal function for CMC Markets, including its European branches, while providing strategic legal guidance to the Senior Management Team. Protect the interests and reputation of CMC at all times.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure comprehensive mitigation of legal risks and address legal matters in alignment with best practices. Identify and implement process enhancements to reduce or eliminate legal risks.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and nurture a high-performing legal team across Europe, focusing on talent acquisition, performance evaluation, and professional growth.
  • Business Collaboration: Work closely with relevant business sectors to support new initiatives, product launches, and significant projects.
  • Dispute Management: Oversee legal disputes, including litigation and regulatory inquiries.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay informed about legal and regulatory changes in the financial services sector, particularly within Europe. Monitor legal updates and disseminate pertinent information to other team members.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Serve as a primary contact for CMC's office leaders across Europe and collaborate with legal colleagues in other regions to ensure effective communication and support.
  • Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of corporate and legal documents, including maintaining product legal terms for trading platforms, handling complaints and litigation, and reviewing finance documentation.
  • External Legal Management: Manage external legal service providers to ensure value and effectiveness while keeping costs manageable without compromising quality.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as required that align with the overall level of this role.

Support for Other Departments:

  • Assist the European Compliance Team with regulatory responses and rule changes impacting CMC's operations.
  • Ensure compliance of CMC's terms of business with local regulations and laws.
  • Support business expansion efforts across Europe, including legal due diligence and cross-border considerations.
  • Collaborate with regional Heads of Legal to protect CMC's intellectual property rights globally and take necessary actions against infringements.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide high-quality legal advice and support to the organization.
  • Mitigate legal risks and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Optimize the use of external legal resources for cost-effective outcomes.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial services industry and relevant legal developments.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified solicitor and German Rechtsanwalt with a minimum of 5-8 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both German and English, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, taking on managerial responsibilities when necessary.
