About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled student who is in the final phase of their master studies. As a Master Thesis Student, you will be responsible for investigating the SLM process to build specific challenging geometries and materials, characterizing materials using Computed Tomography (CT), and automating vision-based detection and analysis of CT images through image processing tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate the SLM process to figure out how to build specific challenging geometries and materials
  • Material characterization using Computed Tomography (CT) and correlation of defects with their root causes
  • Automation of vision-based detection and analysis of CT images through image processing tools
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international environment to work on challenging projects in the field of SLM process and material parameter development
  • Additional material characterization e.g. mechanical properties, density analysis, microstructural investigations, SEM, EBSD chemical analysis, fracture surface analysis, roughness investigations
  • Prepare detailed reports of experiments for internal use and write full research report in master thesis about an exciting project

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree or Equivalent Certification in Engineering Field (e.g. Mechanical, Aerospace) or Physics with focus on LPBF
  • Prior experience with CAM (i.e. Magics, Build Processor, Netfabb, NX) is beneficial
  • General scientific research knowledge, programming, and analytical skills
  • Understanding of laser and powder bed interaction with regards to process stability and capabilities
  • Basic material characterization skills
