PhD Researcher (f/m/x)
– Investigating Microtubule Nanomechanics and Turnover under Physiological Constraints –
The Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry is a premier international research facility known for its diverse scientific endeavors. With a vibrant community of over 1,000 researchers from more than 50 countries, it stands as a leading institution within the Max Planck Society.
The Department of Theoretical and Computational Biophysics, led by Prof. Dr. Helmut Grubmüller, is seeking applications for a
PhD Researcher (f/m/x)
to engage in the project
- Investigating Microtubule Nanomechanics and Turnover under Physiological Constraints -
supervised by Dr. Maxim Igaev. This doctoral project will employ advanced parallel atomistic and coarse-grained modeling techniques to explore the dynamic and mechanical characteristics of microtubule filaments influenced by external forces arising from spatial constraints or other cellular factors.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will possess a solid foundation in one or more of the following areas: computational (bio)physics, structural biology, statistical mechanics, and scientific computing. Applicants should hold (or anticipate completing shortly) a Master's degree or equivalent in these or related fields. A strong interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration with experimental teams is highly desirable.
What We Provide
- Access to cutting-edge on-site high-performance/GPU computing facilities
- A variety of resources to support work-life balance, including on-campus childcare options
- Opportunities for professional development and complimentary in-house language courses
- A spacious campus cafeteria offering a diverse menu, including vegan and vegetarian options
- Health initiatives including free fitness and yoga facilities, sports groups, and wellness courses
- Commitment to sustainability with initiatives aimed at creating a greener environment
The primary language of the group is English, thus proficiency in German is not a requirement, although it presents a valuable opportunity for language acquisition.
Position Details
Compensation and benefits are aligned with the public service wage agreement (TVöD Bund) standards. While we aim to fill the position promptly, the exact starting date is flexible.
You will have the chance to participate in one of several available PhD programs, with funding for three years, in collaboration with the University of Göttingen. Master’s students interested in a fast-track PhD are also encouraged to apply.
The Max Planck Society is dedicated to enhancing the representation of individuals with disabilities within its workforce and actively encourages applications from qualified candidates. We are committed to diversity and gender equality and welcome applications from all backgrounds.
Application Process
Applications will be evaluated on a continuous basis until the position is filled.
Interested candidates should submit their application, including a cover letter detailing their background and motivation, a CV (with a publication list, if applicable), and transcripts (translated into English or German, if necessary) preferably as a single PDF file.
