Research Opportunity: Online Learning for Extrusion Process Control

As part of a prestigious DFG-funded research project, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to contribute to the development of a property-controlled extrusion process based on advanced machine learning models. This project aims to develop powerful, real-time models capable of capturing the dynamic behavior of the extrusion process, which exhibits parameter variations due to batch fluctuations.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth literature reviews on online adaptive modeling approaches within control and forming technology, with a particular focus on Gaussian process regression.
  • Adapt and integrate a learning, adaptive modeling approach into an existing control engineering model for extrusion processes.
  • Validate the developed learning model through experimental testing using real-time process data.

Your Profile:

  • A strong academic background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from a university in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region (e.g., Paderborn, Bielefeld).
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in German or English.
