The teams at Ubisoft Mainz are responsible for engineering some of Ubisoft's most significant titles. As a Technical Director, you will guide the vision and direction for our Tech-Art, Engine, UI, Tools, and Graphics Programming Teams within a Co-Development Environment. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure a cohesive direction that aligns across all teams.
You will serve as the main point of contact for our partners in other studios, regularly collaborating with other Directors to synchronize on vision and technical direction. Keeping the broader picture in mind, you will ensure that your teams are aligned with the overall vision.
You will advocate for your teams, ensuring they are equipped for success. Mentoring your teams and nurturing new leads will be a key aspect of your role, empowering them through autonomy and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentor the Programming and Technical Art Teams while fostering the growth of new Leads through autonomy and coaching.
- Collaborate with Directors and Producers to align on overarching visions.
- Establish guidelines to ensure effective technical realization.
- Contribute to strategic studio development, including recruitment, investment, portfolio management, training, and R&D.
- Ensure timely delivery of your team's contributions to the game, maintaining the expected quality and craftsmanship across all target platforms.
- Define team requirements and technical constraints to realize the creative vision.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in leading technical teams with a strong understanding of Servant Leadership principles.
- Continuous learning about industry trends and the latest technologies related to video game programming.
- Strategic thinker who observes, reflects, and challenges the status quo, actively defining the future.
- Comfortable with a risk-taking approach in complex contexts where not every detail is under control.
- Ambitious and committed to achieving the highest quality, knowing how to guide a team thoughtfully while recognizing when to enforce stricter standards.
- Hands-on experience across various programming aspects of game development, including gameplay, AI, engine, rendering, tools, online, audio, and physics.
- Deep understanding of related domains such as game design, art, animation, and production.
- Ideally, familiarity with procedural generation techniques.
- Proven track record of shipping multiple games.
