- The theoretical philosophy research group at the department of philosophy (Prof. Christian Nimtz, Dr. Steffen Koch) provides a lively environment for research in theoretical philosophy, especially with a view to projects/topics that pertain to the philosophy of language, philosophical methodology, and/or to conceptual engineering. Our research has close ties to work in linguistics and/or psychology, and we cooperate nationally and internationally with researchers across all pertinent areas of philosophy. We work closely with the Bielefeld research group on the philosophy of the life sciences (Prof. Kaiser), and we are establishing a close link to Prof. Kiesewetter’s research group on meta-ethics.- Your Tasks
- conduct independent research in theoretical philosophy (50 %)
- teaching at Bachelor and/or Master level in philosophy; 4 courses per year, in German or English (25 %)
- actively participate in the activities of the research group in theoretical philosophy and its collaborations (5 %)
- engage in organizational tasks that are part of the self-administration of the university (5 %)

- Your Profile
We expect
- scientific university degree (e. g. Magister, M.A.) in philosophy or another relevant study course
- completed and qualified PhD in systematic analytical philosophy
- independent and innovative research profile within one or more core areas of analytical theoretical philosophy, especially: philosophy of language, philosophical methodology, philosophy of mind, epistemology, or metaphysics
- relevant, peer-reviewed publications
- the willingness and ability to actively develop a proposal for external funding within 2-3 years, which, if successful, will result in a (joint) research project at the Philosophy Department in Bielefeld
- cooperative and team-oriented style of work and an autonomous and committed manner of working
- strong coordination and organization skills
- good proficiency in written and spoken English
- Preferred experience and skills
- clear international orientation of research interests and international experience in academia
- experience with organizing workshops and conferences
- a research profile that has visible ties to the projects pursued within the research group theoretical philosophy
- experience in the field of third-party funding
