The HWWI is an independent, privately financed economic research institute. It is organised as a non-profit limited liability company; its sole shareholder is the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The HWWI works closely with the HSU/UniBw H. Within the framework of this cooperation, HSU/UniBw H assumes the scientific direction of the HWWI and employs additional scientific staff to conduct research in the HWWI's fields of work. The HWWI works in the field of applied empirical economic research and aims to actively participate in economic policy debates on the basis of its own research activities.

The research associate works in the methods center. Within the cooperation framework with the HWWI, there may be the possibility of additional employment in a part-time capacity at the HWWI.

**Responsibilities**:

- Research in the HWWI’s fields
- Assistance in the acquisition of and participation in third-party funding projects
- Collaboration in the development of innovative research databases
- Assistance in teaching at the HSU/UniBw H to the extent of basically 1.5 trimester-week-hours
- Participation in the further development of the chair's teaching platform
- Possibility of further academic qualification (e.g. doctorate or habilitation)
- Carrying out general administrative work as well as academic activities in academic self-administration

**Qualification requirements**:

- A completed university degree [Diplom (univ.) or master] in computer science, statistics, economics or another quantitatively oriented field with above-average success.
- Very good programming skills in at least one programming language, ideally the statistical software R
- Very good computer skills
- Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken

**Furthermore desired**:

- Experience in analyzing geo-referenced data (incl. reading such data from satellite images or historical maps)
- Experience in analyzing large data sets using cluster computing with Slurm and Open MPI, deep learning with Keras and CUDA, and implementing routines in C++
- Previous experience in shell-based interaction with (Ubuntu) Linux servers
- Experience with web development with R Shiny (incl. ShinyProxy, Nginx, Docker, SQL, AppArmor etc.) or with React and Node.js
- Strong teamwork skills and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research

The employment is based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD) in conjunction with the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG). In principle, the activities correspond to pay group 13 (E13). However, the actual classification depends on the fulfilment of the relevant collective agreement and personal requirements.
