The Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI researches and develops special problem solutions at the interfaces of medicine, life sciences and engineering. One of the main tasks here is contract research for biotechnological, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, clinics, diagnostic laboratories as well as research institutions.
For the working group "GMP Biopharmaceuticals" at the Leipzig site we are looking for a Resarch Associate in the field of "Viral Vector Platform" to join our team. The working group develops modern biotechnologically produced drugs for the treatment of various diseases. For this purpose, therapeutically active proteins and vector-based gene therapeutics are produced in mammalian cell cultures using large bioreactors. They are then chromatographically purified and aseptically filled in a clean room under GMP conditions. The focus is on process development and the production and quality control of preclinical and clinical test samples. The generation of these test samples is a prerequisite for clinical trials of new drugs.
**What you will do**
- Together with your team, you will work on the planning and establishment of a new GMP production line for vector-based gene therapeutics
- You will develop and validate new methods for the generation of clinical trial samples of viral vectors and thus drive innovation in your field of expertise
- You are actively involved in the acquisition of research and development projects and contribute to the success of the projects won with organizational insight and solution-oriented management
- You will be responsible for the technical leadership and guidance of technical assistants and junior scientists
**What you bring to the table**
- You have a university degree in biology, biochemistry or a comparable field of study
- You have already gained some professional experience in the field of virus production in a GMP environment and are confident in the generation of viral vectors and their analysis
- Ideally, experience of working in a clean room rounds off your profile - this is a plus, but not a must
- Due to your strong organizational skills, you are able to work on several projects and tasks at the same time
- You are enthusiastic about your professional development, would like to take on responsibility quickly and are a good communicator in English and ideally also in German
