In order to support the Future Programmes department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

**Master student in the field of Future Programmes - Space Systems (d/f/m), title of thesis: Optimization of Tracking Algorithms for Space-Based Detection of Hypersonic Flight Vehicles**:

- Location: Friedrichshafen/Immenstaad
- Start: 01.10.2024
- Duration: 6 Monate
- and exo-atmospheric region.

An initial simulation environment for performance engineering of such a satellite-based observation mission is already established. The goal of this work will be an extension and optimization of the utilized data filtering and estimation algorithms within the simulation.

**Your tasks and responsibilities**:

- Gain an insight into the field of space-based target detection and tracking and corresponding in-house simulation software.
- Gain an insight into hypersonic flight vehicles and corresponding aero-thermodynamics with reference to trajectories and radiated signatures.
- Set-up of challenging observation scenarios for space-based sensors (consider variations of aerodynamic and time-dependent observational parameters).
- Adapt the available simulation environment to process the defined scenarios (implement and test the new or adapted algorithms in Fortran/MATLAB).
- Simulate and analyze the expected performance of space-based sensor systems.
- Potentially implement simulation features into GUI routines (Java FXML).
- Document the results.

**Your skills and experience**:

- Enrolled full time student (d/f/m) within aerospace engineering, software engineering, computer science, physics or comparable.
- Good knowledge and experience in coding in Fortran 95+ and/or MATLAB.
- Good knowledge in numerical methods and orbital dynamics as well as data filtering algorithms (e.g. Kalman Filtering) and aero-thermodynamics.
- Fluent English and/or German.
- You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
