Position Description:
BW Papersystems is a company that provides equipment and services for the corrugated and paper converting industry worldwide. As such, we must ensure our products comply with the safety and health requirements of the markets we serve.

The Director of Product Safety is responsible for ensuring our products meet all applicable codes, regulations, and safety compliance standards for our global markets throughout the product lifecycle. The Director of Product Safety will collaborate with R&D, Engineering, Product Management, Product Line Leaders, Sales, Operations, and other functions in developing, implementing, and maintaining tools and processes to address product safety needs.

Essential Functions:

- BW Papersystems representative in Barry-Wehmiller’ s product safety team
- Subject Matter expert in product compliance and safety regulations (NEC, NFPA 79, UL 508A & IEC 60204-1, ISO, IEC, EN, ANSI, NFPA, UL, etc.)
- Review New Product launches for safety compliance.
- Summarize requirements for engineering team and write internal standards as needed.
- Provide guidance on local/regional certifications such as CE, UKCA, NR12.
- Work with engineering to conduct Residual Risk Assessments
- Review machines for compliance and work with engineering and/or assembly to rectify any deficiencies.
- Review & confirm all safety documentation is completed as part of new product launches, and ensure documentation is updated as regulation changes for current products.
- Work with sales, customer service, operations, and engineering to respond and resolve any customer concerns related to machines safety or code compliance.
- Assist in creation of Safety Bulletins
- Help identify product safety and compliance training needs for our team members.
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:

- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and complex problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment with a sense of urgency of tasks.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in cross functional global teams, with technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Understands industrial equipment manufacturing, product development & lifecycle processes.
- Proficient with Risk Assessment Management
- Proficient with government-regulated and/or certified engineering environments (CE, OSHA, NFPA, ISO, etc.).
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimum guidance.
- Stay current on regulatory codes and standards.

Required Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree, in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or similar field.
- 6+ years of experience in compliance testing and international certifications.

Supervisory/Responsibility:
Role reports to Vice President of Global Engineering Standards and Projects.

Work Environment:
This is an office position associated with manufacturing facilities. Although the employee may spend a portion of his/her time in the office area, the employee’s essential job duties also require the employee to spend a portion of his/her time in the manufacturing area. The employee must be able to correctly wear and use any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the employer when in the manufacturing area.
