A recent study estimated that less than 1% of school children in Sub-Saharan Africa attend a school where the teaching meets basic standards of quality. **About us**:
We are a growing network of inspiring schools in West Africa. Our mission is to unleash the full potential of every student, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and character to succeed in further study, work, and day-to-day life. We support more than 300,000 students across Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana and Rwanda through a combination of low cost private schools we manage directly, and partnership schools we manage in collaboration with governments. Independent evaluations have found that Rising students make learning gains two to three times larger than their peers in comparable schools.
We have recently closed our Series A funding round and won a multi-year, multi-million dollar grant to accelerate the development of our digital ed-tech solutions for low-income students across the globe. Our ‘Bambai’ suite of digital tools already includes a school information system, school observation tool, chatbot tutor (Rori), accelerated learning program and teacher coaching app. This is just the start. We want to expand our range of digital products to help improve the quality of education for millions of students around the world. **About the role**:
We are looking for an experienced Lead Data Scientist with exceptional technical abilities handling data analysis/science part of AI projects to inform solutions through effective data analytics for our Digital team at Rising Academies. A major part of this role will be leading on data gathering from multiple sources, data processing, exploratory data analysis, measurement, unstructured data analysis, predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, interpretation of findings, visualization, and product implementation support.
**The Lead Data Scientist will**:
- Employ predictive modeling and/or machine learning to develop best-in-class hypotheses and predictions for our digital team and AI projects, collaboratively with all stakeholders.
- Design a student engagement and retention model that identifies at-risk users and recommends interventions.
- Build and manage best-in-class data visualizations/dashboards that calculates, tracks, and reports on standard B2C user metrics for our digital tools
- Design models for analyzing existing ad campaigns, customer/user acquisition, engagement and retention data across all digital tools to inform decision making.
- Conduct statistical analysis, hypothesis testing and exploratory analysis on experimental data to validate and measure trends or patterns.
- Support the design of our functional model infrastructure for our tools, including how entity, intent and dialogue models are designed and integrated.
- Lead data analysis for multiple projects and support the transformation of our existing data systems and processes.
- Develop new and enhance existing data collection procedures to ensure that all data relevant for analysis is captured.
- Extend data collection to unstructured data within Rising and external sources.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
- University level undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics or similar technical discipline. A Masters degree is preferable, but not required.
- 4+ years experience as Data Scientist, Data Engineer or related fields.
- Experience leveraging predictive modeling, big data analytics, exploratory data analysis, AI and machine learning to inform business impact and decision making.
- Experience with statistical computer languages (Python, SQL, Google Cloud BigQuery, and Google DataStudio) to manipulate and analyze large datasets.
- Experience in strong data analysis, data visualization and use of tools like Jupyter notebooks, matplotlib, seaborn etc.
- Strong knowledge with databases, query languages, alongside tools such as GoogleCloud BigQuery and Google DataStudio.
- Knowledge of Natural Language Processing, Conversational AI (Chatbot), Deep Learning Algorithm and other quantitative fields is a plus.
- Strong data analytics skills & using data to increase user satisfaction, engagement & behaviors.
- EdTech experience is a plus.
