The Institute of Human Genetics is one of Germany’s leading centers in the study of the genetic basis of diseases. It provides a unique scientific environment for researchers, which combines expertise in the analysis and interpretation of genomic data with access to state-of-the-art high-throughput genomic technologies (microarrays, next
- and third-generation-sequencing, bioinformatics). The University of Bonn is one of eleven German Universities of Excellence, and is the only university in Germany to have six Clusters of Excellence.

The PhD position will be based at the Institute of Human Genetics in the AG Dermatogenetics (Prof. Regina C. Betz) which is a member of the Cluster of Excellence Immunosensation². The research project is titled “Unraveling the molecular causes of alopecia areata (AA): whole-genome sequencing in patients with AA plus other autoimmune diseases (AAPAD)”. The aim of the project is to elucidate the molecular genetic basis of alopecia areata and to gain mechanistic insights into its pathogenesis in the context of autoimmunity. The project is financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
