**Duties**:

- Schedules and may be assisted by lower level employees in preparing planting areas; watering, fertilizing, planting, pruning and trimming plants, shrubs and trees.
- Maintains flowers and seeded areas to ensure attractive appearance.
- Determine quantities of plants and materials required for specific areas. Identifies and applies treatment for plant diseases, insects and related problems.

- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2
- Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
- In consideration of COVID-19, personnel within this area routinely wear personal protective equipment (cloth face coverings, latex gloves, and face shields) while performing their regular duties.
- A health assessment is required for this position.

**Qualifications**:

- RESPONSIBILITY: Supervisory instruction is provided in terms of project and project area. The incumbent plans and carries out the work according to the schedule or project assignment considering climatic conditions. The supervisor provides advice on new or unfamiliar gardening methods or problems that arise and checks to see that the completed work meets acceptable standards.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and the pushing of carts and wheelbarrows. Climbing is required to prune or trim vegetation. Lifts and carries heavy objects such as bags of fertilizer, grass seed, etc. weighing up to 50 pounds.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done outside, possibly in rain or in uncomfortably hot and humid conditions. Exposed to cuts and bruises from falls or from carrying materials and supplies. Exposed to dirt, dust, mud, chemical sprays and dust. Required to wear protective clothing such as gloves and safety glasses.
