At the Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research scientists (f/m/d) from the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, pharmacy, immunology, medicine and IT develop innovative radiopharmaceuticals and novel tools for functional characterization, improved imaging and personalized treatment of tumors.
The Department of Neuroradiopharmaceuticals at the research site Leipzig focuses on the development and evaluation of radioactively labeled ligands (radiotracers) for non-invasive imaging of brain tumors using positron emission tomography (PET). Gliomas account for approximately 80% of malignant brain tumors and are currently incurable. Despite standard treatment with aggressive combined radiochemotherapy and intensive efforts to develop new targeted therapeutics, it has not been possible to significantly prolong the overall survival of glioma patients. In a third-party funded project, we are developing, in collaboration with a radiopharmaceutical company, an 18F-labeled radiotracer for imaging the isocitrate dehydrogenase-1 mutation (mIDH1) as a glioma-specific biomarker.
For this purpose, we are looking for a
- PhD student (f/m/d) for the development and synthesis of (radio)ligands for non-invasive imaging of brain tumors by positron emission tomography (PET).

**Working field**:

- Your responsibilities on the project described above will include:

- Medicinal Chemistry: Synthesis and characterization of small, complex molecules
- Radiochemistry: Development of radiolabeling strategies for new compounds
- Biological in vitro evaluation of the new compounds

**Requirements**:

- Successfully completed university studies (master's degree, diploma) in the field of chemistry or pharmacy
- Very good knowledge in the field of organic or medicinal chemistry
- High motivation, creativity, team spirit and responsibility
- Good communication skills in English
- Independent, structured and solution-oriented working style
- Good analytical skills to work on complex problems
