We are delighted to offer a tenure track Research Associate position in the Attosecond Science group of Prof. F. Calegari (CFEL-ATTO) at the Center for Free Electron Laser Science (CFEL) of the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY).
The CFEL-ATTO group is specialized in the development of cutting-edge table-top attosecond light sources, enabling the exploration of matter at the electron time scale. Our primary objective is to investigate and understand the electron dynamics photoactivated within complex systems, encompassing biochemically-relevant molecules, clusters, nanoparticles, droplets, and metal-organic complexes. By uncovering the role of ultrafast electronic mechanisms, such as charge migration, in photochemical and photobiological processes, we strive to expand our knowledge to ultimately drive chemical reactions at the electron time scale.
Situated on the same campus as two prominent Free Electron Laser facilities, FLASH and the Eu XFEL, our group benefits from the complementary and synergistic utilization of x-ray Free Electron Lasers. This integration allows us to achieve site specificity and sensitivity, opening up new dimensions in our studies.
This position will be an integral part of the Hamburg Cluster "Advanced Imaging of Matter" (CUI-AIM), which is funded by the German Federal and State Governments. CUI-AIM serves as a hub for cutting-edge research projects in physics and chemistry. By fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, our cluster aims to visualize and comprehend the emergence of collective behavior and functionality at the microscopic level.

- About your role:
- Engage in pioneering research within the field of attosecond science, actively exploring and advancing beyond state-of-the-art attosecond and femtosecond sources while conducting time-resolved measurements
- Contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge by publishing research findings in esteemed peer-reviewed international journals
- Participate in scientific conferences and symposiums, presenting research results to the global scientific community, fostering collaboration and exchanging ideas
- Provide support and contribute to various research activities conducted by the CFEL-ATTO group, promoting a collaborative and productive research environment

- About you:
- Ph.D. in physics or a relevant field
- A minimum number of 25 publications in international peer-reviewed journals
- Minimum 5 years of postdoctoral experience in ultrafast laser science or ultrafast non-linear optics or attosecond science or molecular spectroscopy
- Experience in pulse compression techniques with ultrafast lasers
- Experience in time-resolved measurements, charge particles / photons detection, and vacuum beamline development
- Experience with beamtime at FELS is a plus
- Strong background in ultrafast lasers and time-resolved spectroscopy
- Good experience in student co-supervision
- A curriculum with awards or recognitions will be positively acknowledged
