**The Chair of Management Science/Operations and Supply Chain Management**
**(Professor Alena Otto)** at the **University of Passau** conducts research in Management
Science/Operations Research. Our chair performs advanced formal analysis of optimisation
projects include case studies from health-care management, disaster management, as well as
on sustainable, anticipatory and adjustable concepts for logistics and production. To achieve
the best possible results in these areas, we develop intelligent exact solution approaches and
heuristics (incl. with performance guarantees). Our goal is to conduct relevant and meaningful
world-class research. We cooperate with leading international research institutions in many of
our projects.
**Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant**
(Subject area: “Dynamic, Adjustable Algorithms for Sustainable and Resilient Logistics:
Studies on Health-care Logistics, Warehousing, and Disaster Relief”)***

The initial contract has a term of two years, and an extension is envisaged. Remuneration is
in line with level E13 of the German public salary scale, TV-L (75%, with the option of an
increase to 100% in case of a quick thematic and methodological familiarisation with the
research project).

**Duties and responsibilities**:
- Conduct thorough and insightful research on the topics of our research group in a self
- reliant manner. For instance, you will develop problem-specific, exact and heuristic
algorithms and perform relevant analyses, such as complexity analysis.
- Present your results at national and international scientific conferences and write up the
research results as articles for scientific journals.
- Teach courses and support the chair in its administrative tasks.
**Person specification**
- You have a very good master’s or Diplom degree in a relevant quantitative discipline (e.g.
mathematics, computer science, business administration with a major in optimisation or in
a related field, or mathematical engineering).
- Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to formulate and prove theorems.
- Thesis written in Operations Research or in a closely related field.
- Profound knowledge in discrete optimisation and in the development of algorithms,
especially the implementation of operations research methods (for example in C++, Python
or one of the other programming languages).
- Interest to contribute to the research topics of the chair.
- Proficiency in English.
- Very good German language skills.
- Team-working ability, curiosity, fascination for learning and continuously gaining
proficiency in new topics.
