The research group of Prof. Dr. Georg Häcker at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene offers the position of a

**Postdoctoral Fellow (M/F/d)**:

- We are studying how a human cell makes the decision to die by apoptosis, mostly focusing on mitochondrial apoptosis and the BCL-2-family. We have identified large complexes containing BCL-2-family members on the outer mitochondrial membrane. We will in this project pursue synthetic as well as analytical approaches (recombinant proteins, structural studies, mouse cells with specific deficiencies), to understand nature, modifications and role of these complexes in apoptosis (a collaboration includes NMR-studies and the attempt at cryo-EM). The project is part of and funded through the DFG-funded collaborative research centre TRR 353 ‘Regulation of cell death decisions’ (Freiburg/Konstanz/Munich).- We are seeking a colleague with a background in biochemistry/cell biology who is interested in understanding the basic biology of mitochondrial apoptosis and the initiation of Bax/Bak-activation.**We offer**:

- a well-equipped laboratory with colleagues skilled in many methods of basic medical research
- ample opportunities for scientific exchange and interaction on a scientifically very active campus
- work in a pleasant atmosphere in a laboratory of 10-15 colleagues
- lively exchange with other groups of the TRR working on the regulation of cell death decisions

**Your tasks**:

- to use a broad portfolio of methods and further to develop novel scientific approaches
- liaise with collaboration partners for specific methods

**Your profile**:

- a PhD in biochemistry or cell biology or related disciplines
- technical background in cell biology/ molecular biology; experience with protein work (production, purification) is advantageous
- interest in scientific exchange on various levels
- The position is available now and is funded until 6/2027.**For further information please contact**:
