With increasing electrification of new vehicles, emissions from the use phase are about to drastically decline in future years. Thereby, the relative importance of reducing the emissions from the production phase increases. "Green Steel", i.e., steel that is manufactured using renewable energy rather than fossil fuels, as well as an increased use of recycled steel are key pathways for reducing upstream manufacturing emissions for new passenger cars.

This 9 to 12 month fellowship, based in our office in Berlin, Germany, is best suited for someone with inventiveness, creativity, resourcefulness, and curiosity, willing to work hard and learn fast. To be successful in our work environment, you must be intellectually curious, self-directed, and able to work with people from across the globe. You will report to an ICCT Researcher.

**You Will**:

- Identify technology pathways for reducing steel usage and reducing embedded carbon for vehicle manufacturers, quantify and visualize the potential emission savings
- Derive policy recommendations for de-carbonizing pathways in the automotive production in Europe
- Author or co-author deliverables to communicate research findings and policy implications
- Prepare presentations and present findings in public forums, such as workshops and conferences, as well as in private forums, such as invite-only stakeholder meetings and policymaker briefings
- Closely coordinate with other ICCT researchers and partner organizations around the world

**You Have**:

- Minimum Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, economics or related field; Master's level or other graduate-level degree is a plus
- Experience collecting, critically analyzing, and drawing insights from data
- Experience working in teams and a collaborative research environment
- Strong English language skills, both written and verbal
- Intermediate to advanced written and verbal skill in a second language is a plus
- Interest and possibly already experience investigating the climate, energy, and health impacts of the transport sector; experience in the field of steel production or steel trade is a plus
- Skills in analytical and modeling tools (e.g., Matlab, R, or Python) is a plus

**Our Benefits**

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), temporary position for 9 to 12 months. The position may lead to regular, full-time employment depending on organizational resources and the Fellow’s performance. The position will be based in the ICCT’s Europe office in Berlin. We offer a competitive gross salary range of 2,800-3,300 EUR per month, depending on education and experience.
