The Department of Chemistry at the Technical University of Darmstadt is seeking to fill a position in the Organic Structure Elucidation group (Prof. Thiele) at the earliest possible date as a
**Research Associate /Postdoc (all genders) - redox-responsive polymers**:
in a fixed-term employment contract for an initial period of one year. An extension of up to three years is possible. The position is classified according to pay group E13 of the TU Darmstadt collective agreement (TV-TU Darmstadt).
The Thiele group in the Department of Chemistry works on the synthesis of polymer-based liquid crystals, structural analysis using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and the elucidation of reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry. We want to strengthen our team with respect to the development of stimuli-responsive liquid crystals, which are to be used as orientation media for NMR spectroscopy. In this project redox-responsive alignment media are in the focus.
**Your main areas of work**:
- Synthesis of polypeptide-based polymers and modification of these with ferrocene groups
- Characterisation of the polymers with regard to composition, liquid crystallinity and stimulus responsivity
- Application of the polymers as alignment media for NMR spectroscopy
- Establishment of switchability outside and inside the spectrometer
- Contribution to teaching in organic chemistry
- Contribution to service projects
**Your profile**:
- Completed scientific university degree in chemistry
- Pertinent doctorate
- In-depth knowledge in the field of organic synthesis
- Knowledge in the field of synthesis and characterisation of polymers (ideally polypeptides)
- Knowledge in the field of NMR spectroscopy, ideally on NMR in anisotropic media, measurement of residual dipolar couplings
- Ideally knowledge in the field of electrical switchability of polymers
- High self-motivation, team spirit and an independent and quality-conscious way of working
- Sound written and spoken German and English language skills are required
