With the storage ring PETRA III and the Free-Electron-Laser FLASH, DESY offers a unique combination of photon sources to the scientific community. PETRA III, one of the most brilliant hard X-ray facilities worldwide, provides a total of 25 beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme source brilliance. P64 is open for international user groups since 2017. It is an undulator beamline dedicated to X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) with an emphasis on flux-hungry techniques for in-situ/operando experiments. We are currently looking for a scientist who leads the beamline team in the further development and implementation of innovative instrumentation at this beamline and organizes the support of external users.
- About your role:
- Further develop innovative instrumentation and sample environments for X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy in collaboration with external groups, including proposals for new beamlines at PETRA IV
- Support the installation and commissioning of instrumentation at the beamline
- Perform advanced XAFS experiments making use of the specific beamline capabilities
- Develop own independent research and participate in collaborative projects with external groups
- Support external user groups at the beamline

- About you:
- PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or related disciplines
- Experience with X-ray spectroscopy techniques using synchrotron radiation
- Practical knowledge of programming and scripting languages, and modern ray-tracing codes
- Experimental skills and interest in instrumentation development
- Excellent knowledge of English, basic knowledge of German
- Teamwork abilities, structured working, setting priorities
