**Head of Chief Engineering Low Earth Orbit & Suborbital Missions (d/f/m)**:
Our Space Exploration Chief Engineering Organization is tasked with operating, maintaining and developing the European elements on the International Space Station (ISS) on time, on cost and on quality. In addition the department includes the Chief Engineering responsibility for future Low Earth Orbit (LEO) space stations and suborbital sounding rocket experiments. The chief engineering department is working in a co-located mode within Space Exploration Programs and is ultimately responsible for all engineering tasks internally but also in front of our external customers.

**Your tasks and responsibilities**:
- Lead and manage the chief engineering team to deliver all engineering tasks (incl. center of competences) for LEO & Suborbital Programs on time, on quality and on cost
- Lead, negotiate and commit the engineering offers E2E, (re-)baselining and ensuring the delivery is in line with the offer taking into account engineering’s total cost of ownership accountability and measuring adherence in regular program EAC cycles
- Define, evaluate and decide on trade-offs, particularly technical trade-offs, design to cost/value/manufacture, service and risks, schedule, total cost of ownership
- Be accountable for the overall product safety, dependability, security and flight certification achievement as well as product regulatory compliance for the engineering perimeter
- Be responsible to manage major non-conformances and drive the assessment and reduction of Cost of Non-Quality
- Establish LEO and Suborbital Missions department objectives reflecting the overall exploration strategy as well as overall Space Engineering objectives
- Manage the department in close alignment with LEO & Suborbital Programs & external customers needs wrt competence, workload and financial results
- Ability to reach solution-oriented, pragmatic and timely decisions of a high standard and with integrity as well as to support others (team members, upper management, other stakeholder) in this process
**Desired skills and qualifications**:
- Master degree in Engineering
- Leadership experience
- Excellent knowledge in System Engineering in space/aerospace projects
- Excellent knowledge in project management in space/aerospace projects
- Experience with internal and external customers
- Ability and willingness to continuously improve existing processes and tools
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Fluent German and English Language Skills, French is an advantage
