The Frankfurt International School (Upper School Division) seeks a highly motivated Intern effective immediately, termed until 30 June 2023 to become our Makerspace Champion.

**Goal**:To further enhance a school environment that celebrates an open-ended culture of creativity, innovation and experimentation.

**Qualifications/skills required**:
- German Abitur, High School Diploma or equivalent
- European work permit
- Proficient computing skills and comfort in learning design-oriented software
- Background in design, engineering, or other complimentary creative disciplines
- Effective communication both orally and in writing
- Strong organizational ability and initiative
- Ability to work and collaborate within a diverse community
- Intrinsically motivated with strong organizational skills
- Enjoys tinkering, making, and inspiring creativity
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently on self-identified tasks

**Preferred Qualities/Knowledge/Experience**:
- Experience working with young people in a creative environment, makerspace, and/or shop setting
- Experience, as prioritized in the following order; crafts, basic woodworking, sewing, robotics, coding and/or AI, CNC, 3D printing, laser cutting
- Knowledge or willingness to learn NGSS in order to connect making to Science and Engineering Principle for grades 6-10
- Have a maker mindset and set an example of intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, life skills, self-motivation, and self-management

**Roles and Responsibilities**:
Using the engineering design process**, **the Makerspace Champion Intern will**
- Assist, support, and encourage students, and other community members, as they learn new skills for developing ideas, experiencing success and failure, and making things in a highly collaborative setting
- Oversee the day-to-day administration and operation of the Makerspaceorganize and coordinate activities
- Provide outreach services related to the US Makerspace within the FIS community
- Manage Makerspace equipment
- Provide a safe working environment by ensuring that proper safety procedures are adhered to and implemented into all activities within the Makerspace
- Provide safety training on the proper use of equipment
- Support faculty and students to independently investigate and design
- Work with a variety of equipment, including but not limited to 3D printer, laser cutters, hand tools, electronics, and robotic kits
- Supervise and lead activities in open makerspace time
- Design and deliver maker experiences on Saturdays for K-12 students and community members using a design thinking model
- Assist with the organization, preparation, and tidying up of makerspace equipment, projects, and materials as required
- Order appropriate supplies and materials for Makerspace projects and keep an up-to-date digital inventory
- Facilitate necessary equipment repairs and liaise with outside service technicians when needed
- Network and make connections between students, teachers, and outside experts
- Collect data (both qualitative and quantitative) and track innovation growth throughout the Upper School to support connections, monitor patterns, and provide example cases to others
- Support the showcasing of student work
- Coordinate an annual Maker Faire-style Faire event
- Seek to increase student access to new and emerging technologies
- Supervise students in designing and building science IA and EE apparatus
- Collaborate with teachers and students to develop projects in line with the current curriculum, including NGSS and IBDP, and support innovation

The Intern will be required to work Monday through Friday from 9:00-17:00. When necessary, flextime will be granted due to after school and weekend obligations.
