**Internship In Visuo-Tactile Object Perception For a Dexterous Robot Hand**:
from April 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter
Dexterous manipulation of unknown objects by robotic hands is a challenging open research problem. It involves learning and perception of complex physical interactions (multiple contact patches, each with both normal and frictional forces) between the robot hand and the manipulated object. This internship will investigate a novel object-perception method that combines visual and tactile information for in-hand manipulation of a variety of objects. The robot hand to be used was newly developed in our institute for dexterity, strength, robustness, and reconfigurability.
**Your tasks**:
We are looking for a talented master's student who is eager to work on this topic in an internship with a duration of 3 to 6 months. Applicants should be studying computer science, machine learning, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, or a related field. Tasks include:
- Integrate a robot hand into existing control and simulation software frameworks (e.g., ROS, IsaacSim)
- Develop an in-hand object-detection and pose-estimation method for a variety of objects using deep learning and state estimation methods
- Analyze the performance of the method in terms of accuracy and robustness
The position will allow the student to gain hands-on experience with robotics, computer vision methods, and intelligent systems, as well as be exposed to ongoing research.

**Your profile**:
High motivation, excellent skills in computer science, a solid background in mathematics and computer vision, and hands-on experience in deep learning are prerequisites. Furthermore, good programming skills in C++, Python, and PyTorch are required. Previous research experience in computer vision, robot dynamics and control, deep learning, and practical experience with robotics software frameworks like ROS is a plus.
**We offer**:
Master students will be paid 2035 EUR (gross) per month for a full-time internship if the internship is voluntary, i.e., not required by the study programme of the student. If the internship is a mandatory part of the study programme, the internship is unpaid.
The earliest possible start date is April 1st, 2023.
