Our research group, led by Prof. Dr. Marc Remke, studies the biology of malignant brain tumors. The research focus is the most common malignant brain tumors in childhood: medulloblastoma, high-grade glioma, and atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT). We aim to close the gaps in translational medicine through pharmacogenomic approaches. To this end, we use a high throughput drug screening approach, as well as novel NGS-based technologies, in particular RNA sequencing and single-cell DNA sequencing with an in-lab 10X Genomics system.

Resistance to chemotherapy is a common cause of treatment failure in cancer patients and a significant problem facing cancer research. The resistance mechanisms to cytotoxic chemotherapeutics and therapies designed to be selective for specific molecular targets share many features, such as alterations in the drug target, activation of pro-survival pathways, and pathway reactivation and ineffective induction of cell death.
