The recently launched infrastructure initiative German Human Genome-Phenome Archive is seeking a Training Coordinator for Data Protection. “We care about genomic data. We make it usable. We protect it.”
The German Human Genome-phenome Archive at the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (German Cancer Research Centre) is building a secure national omics data infrastructure that provides a framework for the use of human genome data for research purposes while preventing data misuse. GHGA bridges the gap between research and medical care, and creates the opportunity to effectively use both data and technology to develop new therapies and diagnostic tools.
Our mission is to securely store genomic data, to make genomic research easier, and to provide international visibility to German research. We are creating a national genome data archive for data produced in Germany, and in doing so, are addressing a number of data protection challenges related to the reuse of personal data for research.
As part of that mission, GHGA are co-leading, alongside GESIS-Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, the Safe Researcher Accreditation System (SaRAS) project. The SaRAS project is working to create a federated training and accreditation scheme for researchers accessing sensitive data for research purposes in Germany and is supported by a number of other institutions across Germany and the UK. The training offered through SaRAS will focus primarily on the data protection challenges of producing safe research outputs from sensitive data but will also include topics related to research data management, service management, and data handling.
We are recruiting a Training Coordinator for Data Protection. The Coordinator will support the development and launch of the SaRAS project as well as contribute to the development of the national genome data archive at GHGA.
The Coordinator will benefit from a fast growing and international working environment with a lot of creative scientific freedom and will work in close collaboration and exchange with excellent national and international partners in research data management.
**Job description**:
- Organising the work of the SaRAS project team and managing the relationships between the project team and other key stakeholders.
- Maintaining close cooperation and exchange between SaRAS project partners.
- Organising project meetings and in-person writing sprints.
- Producing project updates and reports, and managing internal and external communications.
- Contributing to the production of training materials.
- Support the GHGA Data Protection Coordinator in tasks related to the development of the national genome data archive (GHGA).
- Contributing to research papers, publications, and conference presentations relating to the SaRAS project.
**Requirements**:
- University degree (Master/Diploma) in Natural, Information or Social Sciences, alternatively proven work experience in a related field.
- Experience related to data protection relevant to research and/or research data management.
- Excellent organisational skills, knowledge of office software packages.
- Very good command of written and spoken English and preferably German.
- Experience of developing or delivering training is desirable.
