**PhD Student (M/F/d)**

Research of Prof. Dr. A. Nies focusses on elucidating the role of human membrane transporters in the absorption, disposition, and elimination of drugs that are in clinical use as well as the role of membrane transporters in physiology. A number of different cell and molecular biology techniques as well as mouse models are used to identify the clinical and physiological relevance of membrane transporters.

**Job Description**:

- Application of a broad spectrum of basic molecular and cell biology techniques, including immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, immunoblotting, real-time PCR
- Mice experimentation: mouse colony management, handling, hepatocyte preparation, in vivo experiments
- Functional testing of compounds in in vitro cell models (using 3H- and 14C-labeled compounds) and in vivo mouse models
- Ex vivo mouse tissue analysis on different molecular levels using state-of-the-art methods (transcriptomics, metabolomics)
- Analysis of experimental datasets (e.g. gene expression, metabolomics) using biostatistics and bioinformatics

**Qualifications**:

- Master degree (M.Sc.) in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, pharmaceutical sciences or a related discipline
- Experience and solid background in molecular biology and cell culture technology
- Preliminary practical experience in working with mice would be beneficial
- Interest in transporter pharmacology and physiology
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
