**Duties**:

- Advises the USANATO Commander, and US Senior Area Officers on a variety of matters pertaining to international and public administrative law.
- Advises on bilateral and multilateral agreements involving other nations and international organizations.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with NATO and host nation government officials whose official responsibilities impact on the mission of the U.S. Forces in the BENELUX.
- Participates in the planning and decision-making process with the USAG NATO Commander, Chief of Staff, other commanders and primary staff on all significant matters affecting USANATO Forces.
- Subject to the guidance of the OIC, NLC, incumbent represents or joins in the representation of the U.S. Forces at significant host nation events.
- Incumbent keeps abreast of and reports and advises on national, regional and local political issues which could impact on U.S. military presence and activities.
- Incumbent assesses the military, political, regulatory and legal implications of events, identifies the pertinent issues, and advises the supported commanders and staff officers so that properly coordinated staff responses may be prepared.
- Incumbent provides legal advice on major complex issues concerning tax relief, Status of Forces and other bilateral privileges relating to USANATO Personnel.

**Conditions of Employment**:

- A two year trial/probationary period may be required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance for access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to maintain active bar membership, in good standing (as defined by the pertinent bar) of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. territory, the District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- If selected, the agency will provide information regarding what documentation is needed and how to request any legally required exceptions from this requirement.
- Must obtain and maintain a no-fee passport and associated visa while assigned to a Federal civilian position in an area requiring a passport and associated visa, if authorized.

- Ability to effectively, professionally, and ethically manage a caseload in a complex senior leader alliance environment.

**Qualification Requirements**: The following minimum qualification requirements must be met before applicants are eligible for further consideration:
**Education Requirements**:Position requires the possession of the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.)-
**Experience**: In addition to the requirements above, applicants for the GS-14 or equivalent Attorney positions must also possess 3 years of professional legal experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the top 25% of the class or an advanced law degree such as an LLM may substitute for one year of the required professional legal experience.**Time in Grade**: The Qualifying Authorities (QA's) will make a determination as to the applicability of time in grade based on the requirements of the position. If you are currently employed as an attorney by the Federal government, you must have completed one year at the next lower grade level within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement, or previously served at the same or higher grade level as the position being filled.-

- This is a Career Program (CP) 56 - Legal position.

- U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
- On this overseas accompanied tour, medical and DoDDS special education services are available in the immediate location of this position.
- In the overseas areas, access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only. Medical care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location.
- Movement overseas may require you to initiate a change in your health benefits plan to ensure coverage.
