Hannover, Deutschland Georg-August-Universität Göttingen Vollzeit

The Department of Cellular Neurobiology at the Johann-Friedrich-Blumenbach-Institute of Zoology and Anthropology at the University of Göttingen is offering a

**Postdoc Position (all genders welcome)**

The position will be limited to 3 years with the possibility for prolongation and will be filled as soon as possible.

**Salary**: Pay grade 100% (i.e. 39,8 h/week)
**TV-L 13 **of German state regulated public service salary scale.

**Your research**
How a single super-multifuncitonal protein can serve - and maintain
- it diverse functions is the focus of the HFSP project multifuncitonality. Using the Drosophila opsin protein rhodopsin 1 (Rh1), naturally occurring sequence variations that do not interfere with protein maturation/trafficking will be introduced into the fly to test effects on Rh1 functions. The functional analysis will be performed in the Göpfert lab, which pioneered the study of light-independent opsin functions and with which the position is affiliated. Respective mutant animals will be generated, and mutant effects will be explored on the structure and function Rh1-dependent photo-, mechano-, and chemoreceptor cells using electrophysiology, immuno-histochemistry, and electron-microscopy. We will also test for effects on larval temperature behaviors and extract and purify the protein variants from the fly eye. The position offers the opportunity to attract and supervise students, and it will be tightly embedded into the HFSP project and entail intense international collaboration.

**Your profile**
To qualify for the position, you should
- have a PhD in Biology or a related discipline
- have a strong background in the analysis of sensory cell function
- be familiar with animal dissection, electrophysiology, and immuno-histochemistry
- have expertise in molecular biology and, ideally, Drosophila genetics
- have excellent communication and writing skills in English
- be highly motivated, self-organized and able to work in an international research team

Our labs are situated in the Schwann-Schleiden Research Center for Molecular Cell Biology and are part of the Göttingen Research Campus. We offer a highly collegial research environment and state-of-the art infrastructure.
